FUN Technologies' Games Division Named "Skill Game Operator of the Year"
Winners Honored at eGaming Review Industry Awards Ceremony in London
TORONTO - October 16, 2006 - FUN Technologies Inc. ("FUN" or the "Company"), one of the world's leading online and interactive casual games providers, announced that its FUN Games division received honors as "Skill Game Operator of the Year" from eGaming Review at a gala ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London.
eGaming Review magazine presented awards in 18 categories, recognizing achievements from all areas within the online gaming industry. The Skill Game Operator of the Year is deemed to be the best operator in the skill-gaming sector. The judges chose FUN Games based on innovation, entertainment, usability and originality.
Following FUN Technologies' acquisition of WorldWinner in March 2006, it combined the top two providers of online game competitions, WorldWinner.com and SkillJam.com, and created FUN Games, a casual games powerhouse with 27 million players. FUN Games hosts millions of competitions each month in some of the most popular casual games, including Solitaire, Bejeweled 2, Zuma and Luxor.
"Combining the best games content, the largest player network, and a partner network comprised of the largest and most popular Internet sites, FUN Games has emerged the clear leader in the skill games industry," said Lorne Abony, CEO of FUN Technologies. "It's an honor to be recognized by eGaming Review for our innovation and leadership. An example of FUN Games' innovation, the company hosted the first-ever skill games competition to crown a US$1 million winner on September 9. With the WorldWide Web Games (W3Games) championship, FUN flew 69 finalists to Hollywood to compete in a live event that will be televised on GSN on December 3. While there have been several live video game championship events, never before has there been such a competition for casual gamers, and never before has a games company awarded a million dollar prize. Through the W3Games, FUN Games hopes to validate casual games as a popular pastime, enjoyed by players of all ages.
This is the second eGaming Review Industry Awards hosted by the publication. WorldWinner won the "US Market Hotshot" award during the inaugural awards ceremony in 2005.
