Free Gaming Business

GRIN founders Bo and Ulf Andersson to address this month's get-together in Rotterdam.

Bo and Ulf Andersson will talk about designing AAA games and Growing your studio from startup-to-4 studios worldwide at the Free Gaming Business event on Saturday June 21!

GRIN was founded in 1997 in a basement 30 minutes outside of Stockholm, Sweden by Bo and Ulf Andersson. 12 years later, the studio now employs 240 developers across 4 cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Barcelona and Jakarta. GRIN’s first game, Ballistics, caught the eye of an arcade machine manufacturer who asked the studio to design an entire cabinet. From this development the studio went onto develop Bandits – Phoenix Rising for the PC before sinking its teeth into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and its sequel, G.R.A.W. 2, released during the summer of 2007.

GRIN is currently developing four titles, of which two have been announced: Bionic Commando and Bionic Commando Rearmed. Anticipation for Bionic Commando is at fever pitch, as this is the first title developed outside of Capcom Japan by a western studio. Another title in development is based on a blockbuster Hollywood film and is certain to change the way gamers look at movie based games.

When the brothers aren’t saving the world from asteroids they enjoy their paintball team which competes on a regular basis throughout Europe. The GRIN logo was designed when smiley faces were the latest craze; the brothers decided to create a darker version. The gold teeth each represent a released game. It’s only a matter of time when the teeth go platinum…
