Foundation 9 to establish new studio in Canada

Foundation 9 Entertainment, the largest independent game developer in North America, is to open a new studio in Prince Edward Island, Canada - bringing the total number of studios it owns to seven.

The new subsidiary is being opened in the city of Charlottetown with the financial support of government corporation techPEI, which will contribute to set-up and ongoing development costs.

Operating under the name Backbone Charlottetown, the studio is set to be up and running by the end of the month, and by the end of the year it will employ around 20 people. Backbone Chartlottetown will develop for all platforms including next-generation consoles.

âFoundation 9 continues to grow at a pace that outstrips the rest of the gaming industry,â said company co-president Andrew Ayre.

âThis latest studio not only gives us additional resources to make great games, it also brings a thriving company to a region of Canada keen for economic growth in the technology sector.â

Foundation 9 already already owns six studios across North America: Backbone, The Collective, Pipeworks, Digital Eclipse, ImaginEngine and Circle of Confusion. The company produced 40 titles last year, and has produced more than 300 in total.
