Foundation 9 boss appeals for common sense parenting

Responding to recent developments in the USA where new legislation is being proposed to restrict the availability of videogames to minors, Foundation 9 president Jon Goldman has appealed for parents to get more involved in what their children are playing.

In an editorial published on GamesIndustry.biz today, Goldman argues that the public figures proposing anti-videogames bills simply don't understand the medium, and pushes for better parenting rather than flawed legislation.

"You need to read game reviews online or in newspapers, talk with other parents, pay attention the clearly posted ratings already on each game box, and here's a creative solution: don't give your kids tons of money to blow without your supervision," he comments.

Goldman, who is the president of Foundation 9 Entertainment, the largest developer of games in the United States, believes that as gaming becomes more commonplace among older people, this issue will disappear, and equates it to similar public debates over the morality of mediums such as home movies and rock music.

"Suffice to say, you can't legislate taste or shape people's fantasies through law," he concludes.

You can read the entirety of Goldman's comments in his Op-Ed piece on the site today.
