Foundation 9 acquires Amaze Entertainment

Rapidly expanding US outfit Foundation 9 is to acquire franchise specialist Amaze Entertainment.

Rapidly expanding US outfit Foundation 9 is to acquire franchise specialist Amaze Entertainment.

Funded by Foundation 9's owners, Francisco Partners, the move makes the independent development collective the largest in the world, comprising of 725 employees across eleven different studios.

"The team at Amaze has done a fantastic job in growing one of the most trusted and best run independent developers, period," said Jon Goldman, CEO of Foundation 9.

"Our combined strength in handheld will be unparalleled, which provides excellent balance to our growing roster of five plus next-gen titles," he added.

Amaze has worked across a range of high-profile franchises, including Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, and is currently working on the handheld version of Eragon for VU Games.

"We're thrilled to be joining the first rate studios that already make up Foundation 9," commented Amaze CEO Dan Elenbaas.

"We've experienced tremendous success at Amaze and believe the combined opportunity will be even more exciting for all our employees and partners," added Elenbaas.

Foundation 9 recently acquired The Matrix development studio Shiny Entertainment from publisher Atari.

Amaze's studios - KnowWonder, Griptonite, Monsoon and Fizz Factor - now join Foundation 9's other studios and brands: The Collective, Backbone Entertainment, Pipeworks, ImaginEngine and Digital Eclipse.
