Former Rockstar Vienna devs reveal new plans

Socialspiel studio names first title as social boardgame, Push

Social games studio Socialspiel, founded by ex-Rockstar coders, has revealed casual online boardgame Push, its first title.

It's the Vienna-based company's first step in plans to become a player in the brower-based social games market, and the game will integrate with social networking services such as Facebook and Netlog.

"After almost 10 years of developing big budget, triple-A titles such as Grand Theft Auto and Max Payne for Rockstar Games it is a breath of fresh air to focus on developing independent games with a direct connection to our fans and players on social networks around the world," said Socialspiel chief executive Helmut Hutterer.

"Our goal at Socialspiel is to develop richly-crafted online games, with high quality production values and appealing experiences for players and their friends to enjoy throughout their daily life online".

Rockstar Vienna originally shut down in 2006, with Koch Media acquiring the studio's remnants and turning it into Deep Silver Vienna in 2008 - although it subsequently closed at the beginning of this year after its main project, Cursed Mountain, failed to impress critics or the public.
