Former EA Mobile boss rejoins DreamWorks

John Batter leaves publishing giant after Jamdat acquisition

John Batter, the VP and general manager of the giant publisher Electronic Arts' EA Mobile division, has resigned from the company to return to film production company DreamWorks.

His departure comes only days after EA announced that it is set to acquire leading mobile game publisher Jamdat in a $680 million deal, the largest in EA's history, with a view to merging it with the EA Mobile business.

Current Jamdat CEO Mitch Lasky will become the new head of EA Mobile under the terms of the deal, replacing Batter in the role - although EA has characterised the departure as a personal decision by Batter, who had previously served as general manager of the EA Los Angeles studio.

Batter is leaving the games industry entirely, at least for now, rejoining his former company DreamWorks as a senior production executive. Prior to his roles at EA, Batter worked on movies including Antz and Shrek for DreamWorks.
