Football Challenge 08
Nearly one million balls kicked since the game's launch in mid April.
Since mid April 2008, www.fussball-challenge.com has been drawing football fans in their droves. The free online game was developed by Greentube AG, the leading provider of free 3D download games and creator of Ski Challenge. Since its international launch, almost one million football enthusiasts have downloaded Football Challenge 08, created their own teams and contested around ten million virtual football matches. As a result of partnerships with eight media companies, gamers from seven European countries have taken to the online pitch. Involved in the game are ORF (Austria), SF (Switzerland), Sport1.de (Germany), Inform Media (Hungary), Zurnal24
(Slovenia), 24sata (Croatia) and Inform Media (Romania).
The game is financed by in-game advertising. The list of advertising partners from across Europe reads like a who’s who of successful international companies: Adidas, Canon, Coca Cola, Hyundai, Nokia, Samsung, McDonald´s, Sony Ericsson, Dunlop and T-Mobile to name just a few.
“The initial figures clearly and concisely confirm our game concept,” reports Dr. Eberhard Dürrschmid, Greentube CEO. “In Football Challenge 08, we offer e-sports fans a new format, in the year in which football has taken centre stage. During the development of the game, our long-standing expertise and innovative in-game advertising technology came into play to
give us a great advantage. Together with our partners we are introducing new energy into the virtual football world, while giving millions of enthusiasts the opportunity to indulge in their passion for the game.”
With Football Challenge 08 football fans from multiple countries have the possibility to play against each other in real time on the Internet, or test themselves offline against the artificial intelligence of the computer. As soon as the download is complete, every gamer can create an entirely unique team, with its own kit. Even the individual players can be edited, with the
option of toggling the height, figure, skin colour, hair style and facial expression of each member of the team.
The intuitive controls make getting into the game simple – just a few keys are required to control the active player. The ultimate challenge of Football Challenge 08 lies in taking on the rest of the world online. As soon as a player goes online, a similarly skilled opponent will be found to play against. Gamers can train either against the PC or in Friendly Mode with friends. The virtual managers can also collect skill points by participating in tournaments, which are spread over a number of weekend
rounds.
Even during the sporting event of the year in Austria and Switzerland, Europe has been caught up in Football Challenge 08 fever. In providing the chance to participate in regular training sessions, competitive and friendly matches and international tournaments, Greentube has fuelled the enthusiasm even further.
