Facebook rolls out in-app purchases to Instant Games platform
IAP currently available on Android and Facebook.com
Facebook has introduced in-app purchases to its Instant Games platform, which can be implemented by developers on Android and Facebook.com.
For web games on Facebook.com, the revenue split on IAP will be 70/30 in favour of Facebook - something of an industry standard, and the same share has always been in place for Facebook game.
Mobile developers will get a significantly smaller chunk of the revenue, however. For purchases made in Instant Games on Google Play, Facebook will take a 30 per cent cut after the slice already taken by Google.
"Our primary goal is to build IAP in a way so that our developer partners can sustain and grow, and we'll continue to evaluate rev/share with that goal in mind," Facebook said in a statement.
"Enabling IAP has always been on our roadmap for Instant Games, and it's a key part of helping developers be successful. Six months ago we started working with developers to test IAP in select games, and last month we opened the Instant Games platform for all developers to build games and integrate ads."
The submissions process for Instant Games IAP will open on May 7. Facebook indicated that it has plans to expand beyond Facebook.com and Android, saying it is, "still exploring monetization options on other platforms."
