Ex-SOE director to lead all Atari studios

John Hayase becomes SVP of product development, overseeing Test Drive Unlimited 2, Neverwinter and Blade Kitten

Atari has appointed ex-Sony Online Entertainment director of development John Hayase as its new senior vice president of product development, where he'll take charge of every development studio working under the Atari banner, including Eden and Cryptic.

Previously, Hayase oversaw the development of many online games for Sony, including MMO titles like EverQuest and Free Realms, having worked at EA in a variety of roles beforehand.

"John joins Atari during an essential growth period in which we continue to transition our business toward the online space while maintaining a focus on retail," said Atari chief executive Jeff Lapin.

"His strong background leading development teams to produce free-to-play MMOs, digital and retail console products with some of the industry's most respected publishers, will serve Atari well as we move forward."

"I can't think of a better time to join Atari as the company expands its games business online," said Hayase.

"I look forward to leading Atari's talented studios and delivering memorable gameplay experiences, further contributing to the company's development and success."

Recently, Atari's revenues have suffered, although the company has reported healthy growth in its online sector.
