Eurogamer introduces MMO channel
Eurogamer.net has introduced an MMO channel to its line up of videogame coverage
Eurogamer.net, Europe's leading independent videogames website, has announced the introduction of an MMO channel to its videogame coverage.
Eurogamer recently appointed Oli Welsh as MMO editor, and the company is putting significant resources into making sure the new MMO channel becomes an essential read for anyone with an interest in the genre.
"MMOs are the most dynamic, fastest growing field in gaming right now," said Welsh.
"The MMO Channel is an exciting opportunity to bring Eurogamer's high editorial standards to dedicated coverage of these virtual worlds."
Recognising the increasing popularity of massively multiplayer online games - not to mention the size and scope of those games - the new channel is designed to reflect the changing nature and long life-spans of virtual worlds.
"MMOs are different. They work in a different way, you play them in a different way - and you pay for them in a different way," said Welsh in an introduction to the channel.
"We at Eurogamer believe that our coverage of them should be different too, hence this new MMO channel."
Welsh promised that they would come back to all the major games and re-review them at regular intervals to update readers on the current state of play. He also promised that the site would provide accessible guides to help demystify MMOs for newcomers, helping them to get the most out of their time online.
Eurogamer's MMO channel will also report on major community events such as Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational in Paris.
To celebrate the launch of the channel, Eurogamer has teamed up with the developers of massively multiplayer sports game Empire of Sports to offer 2000 pairs of keys to the game's Private Launch phase.
Eurogamer recently announced its ABCE audited readership reached 1.83 million unique users for November 2007.
The Eurogamer Network is the publisher of Eurogamer.net as well as GamesIndustry.biz.
