Eurogamer and Skyjack team for Megaton launch
New website for younger gamers, Megaton.co.uk, to support print magazine
The Eurogamer Network has announced Megaton.co.uk, a new website aimed at a younger videogame audience.
The project is in partnership with Skyjack Publishing, which today launches Megaton magazine in the UK. The accompanying website – which is in beta with an official launch on March 25 – will utilise content from the magazine and also create additional online editorial and advertising solutions.
"With over 4.9 million young gamers online every day the potential audience for Megaton.co.uk is massive, particularly given that over three million of them are online for over three hours every day," said Megaton.co.uk publisher Cat Channon.
"They are surprising stats when you look at all the other factors - eating, sleeping, school, playing sports, arguing with the folks, TV - which take up such large chunks of your average kid's day. The audience exists and its appetite for online content is insatiable. We’re excited about addressing it."
Skyjack's Megaton magazine has been created by Matt Yeo and Wayne Lamport, previously responsible for TOXIC and The Official Ben 10 Magazine. The publication is targeting the 8-12 year-old market.
"This is a great launch for us and the many videogame publishers for whom a dedicated children's site is long overdue, added Eurogamer Network MD Rupert Loman.
"We have talked about a junior project for a while, but we were adamant we should only enter this space when we fully understood how children use the internet and exactly what they want from a videogames website. Working alongside SkyJack and their expertise in the kids space represents a great opportunity for all involved."
Full details of Megaton.co.uk are to be revealed at launch next month. The Eurogamer Network also publishes Eurogamer.net and GamesIndustry.biz.
