eSports league Eleague hires new GM and commissioner
Christina Alejandre and Min-Sik Ko join Turner and WME | IMG creation
Turner and WME | IMG's eSports league, Eleague, has just appointed two new executives ahead of its May 2016 debut. Min-Sik Ko takes the role of commissioner while Christina Alejandre is the vice president and general manager.
"Min-Sik's unparalleled experience in strategic management and organizational administration in the world of eSports makes him the perfect candidate to lead Eleague as its Commissioner," said Sherman, head of the WME | IMG eSports division.
"We're incredibly excited for the debut of Eleague, as we build the foundation for a new global sports league that will feature world class entertainment and competition between the best of the best."
Ko's previous experience includes co-founding Global Esports Management and working as a business relationship manager at twitch. Alejandre previously spent six months at ESL and three as director of publishing at Turbine. She's also worked with 30 Studios and Nickelodeon.
"Christina's proven track record and experience as a leader in the entertainment, gaming and eSports industries give her the ability to expertly lead and drive the day-to-day business operations of Eleague," added Craig Barry, EVP of production and chief content officer at Turner Sports.
"As we launch Eleague, she will be an invaluable resource as we build an infrastructure that provides a high quality, authentic product for our fans, while also supporting the continued growth of the overall eSports ecosystem."
Turner Studios in Atlanta will be home to the headquarters for Eleague and WME | IMG has committed to weekly telecasts airing on TBS, according to its official site.
"For the first time in gaming history, in addition to over 30 hours of weekly competition streamed live digitally, eSports will be exhibited regularly on a fully-distributed national television platform, TBS, and will be staged, produced and promoted in a manner reflective of other major traditional American sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball. Eleague will debut in 2016 with tournaments featuring Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)."
