Volkswagen to show off its new Polo GTI.

Cologne, July 19, 2010 – Volkswagen celebrates a great comeback with the new 180hp Polo GTI at gamescom 2010 in Cologne (August 18 - 22). The visitors of Europe’s biggest entertainment trade fair will also have the opportunity to experience the newest product from Wolfsburg virtually: the car itself will be set within the game of the Volkswagen Racing Cup. Together with Electronic Sports League (ESL) Volkswagen is looking for the best driver of their new flagship model from the Polo series. Each day's winner will be awarded a Safe Driving Course from the "Junge Fahrer Programm", a program established specially for young drivers. At gamescom Volkswagen wants to sensitize young people for the importance of cautious driving. The whole idea of the project is strongly supported by Samy Deluxe. On August 21, the German rapper will award the w inners of the Racing Cup live on stage.

The Volkswagen Racing Cup is a consecutive outcome of the long lasting co-operation between Volkswagen and ESL, the biggest league for computer games in Europe. For quite some time the car manufacturer is as succesful in eGames as it has been on the roads. The Mobile App Game for iPhone and iPod Touch "Volkswagen Touareg Challenge" reached the number of over one million downloads in only one week. At www.facebook.com/volkswagen.egames fans of Volkswagen eGames can also join the online community.

The Volkswagen booth in exhibition hall 9 at gamescom 2010 is integrated within ESL’s gaming and eSports arena. Together with Volkswagen Bank, special offers for young drivers will be presented. To enthuse young drivers for the new car Volkswagen chose to launch the Polo GTI in an innovative way: For the first time in Europe a car was presented exclusively online in a social network. Facebook users were introduced to new Polo GTI with the slogan "Fast Lane – Driven by Fun".
