Epic Games announced that it has been recognised as the Large Company of the Year by the North Carolina Technology Association.
The NCTA awarded Epic Games the large company Stage of Development award for its success following the record-breaking launch of its Gears of War game and the continued prosperity of its Unreal series.
Epic beat out finalists such as Accenture, Cisco, Red Hat and Microsoft Charlotte.
"It's such an honour for a private company with less than a hundred employees to be nominated in a category with four world-class publicly held companies," said Dr. Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. "To win the award was such a great surprise, and I couldn't be more proud of our team.
"Through innovations in game development, as well as crossing over into film, government and military applications, architectural previsualization and more with our engine software, Epic is positioned to be a lasting contributor to North Carolina's technology market," Capps said.
Epic is located in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, one of three cities forming the area known as the "Research Triangle Park," home to more than 30 videogame companies including Funcom, Icarus Studios, RedStorm Entertainment, Emergent Game Technologies, Electronic Arts, and Destineer Studios.
According to the Wake County Department of Economic Development, Research Triangle Park it is one of the largest concentrations of videogame companies in the US.
