Epic Games store eats cost of site-wide sale
Company takes $10 off everything over $15 at no cost to publisher or devs, giving refunds for preorders, recent purchases
Epic Games is doing more than just buying exclusivity on big-name games to drive adoption of the Epic Games store. Today the company launched the Epic Mega Sale, a promotion that runs until June 13 and offers $10 off all games priced $14.99 or above, with Epic covering the cost of that discount for developers and publishers.
Additionally, Epic is automatically refunding $10 on all outstanding preorders for games over the $14.99 threshold. Finally, for anyone who purchased a title from the Epic Games store between May 2 and the start of the sale, Epic will automatically refund the difference in price between what the customer paid and what they would have paid during the sale.
The offers are applicable in every region the Epic Games store operates, and the thresholds and discounts are being converted to local currencies.
Since launching its storefront late last year, Epic Games has attempted to cut into Steam's hold of the PC market by signing PC exclusivity deals for a number of high-profile titles, including The Division 2, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. That particular tactic has caused backlash from PC gamers, but Epic has said it will continue to sign such deals going forward.
