Epic Games partners with Singapore university

Singapore Polytechnic will receive the country's first Unreal Technology lab on its campuses

Singapore Polytechnic has announced a deal with Epic Games China that will see the university as the site of the country's first Unreal Technology lab.

The facility will serve as a training ground for games developers in the region. It will allow games developers the chance to create games prototypes in Unreal Engine 3, so as to be able to commercialise their games easily.

"With Singapore's robust intellectual property protection regime, and a highly skilled and talented workforce, locating the Unreal Technology Lab in Singapore allows us to serve the game development community in Southeast Asia," said Paul Meegan, CEO of Epic Games China.

Tan Kar Joo, senior director of Cluster Development Group, added: "The Unreal Technology Lab marks a milestone in digital media history here. This collaboration is aligned with IDA's Connected Games Programme, which seeks to build infocomm capabilities in games development and is testament to IDA's mission of helping the digital media cluster by making technology resources available through the Games Resource Centre initiative"
