EGX secures major Amazon partnership

Amazon will support EGX with a marketing campaign and Amazon's website will also host an EGX hub of content

Gamer Network's EGX show has just gotten a nice boost entering its ninth year. The 2016 show, which takes place from September 22-25, has landed a partnership with the biggest e-commerce company in the world, Amazon.com. As the exclusive retail partner of EGX, Amazon will offer gamers the opportunity to instantly buy and pre-order games and hardware at the show. Additionally, Amazon will support EGX with marketing across its website, app and social media, will offer a hub of content with Twitch live-streams and information on all the products being showcased at EGX, and the company will be running monthly prize draws so that 100 Amazon customers will have the chance to win free EGX tickets in the months leading up the show.

"Every year we see our customers respond to the hands on experience and news coming out of EGX, so we are delighted to make it even easier to connect our customers with the games they love from innovative indie titles to blockbuster games," said Russell Jones, Category Leader, Video Games for Amazon. "We are also working with our publishing partners to offer a few surprises for customers at the event."

"We asked our community where they prefer to buy and pre-order their games and Amazon was overwhelmingly their number one choice," said Rupert Loman, CEO of Gamer Network. "Their obsessive focus on customer experience fits perfectly with our attendees' discerning taste. We're extremely pleased to have the backing of another market-leading partner."

EGX is expected to draw around 80,000 gamers to the NEC in Birmingham. The show has been expanding in recent years to stay on top of the latest in gaming culture including eSports, VR, YouTube talent, indie games, cosplay and retro gaming. On the trade side, GamesIndustry.biz readers should be reminded that this year at EGX we're opening up the first ever trade zone, which will host representatives from publishers, developers, platform-holders, investors and recruiters covering PC, console and mobile.
