EGS Business
Running alongside next month's Electronic Game Show in Mexico.
Mexico City, Sept. 2, 2009 - The first event focused on creating and strengthing alliances and strategies to benefit the videogame industry in Mexico and Latin America is born: EGS Business. Major videogame manufacturing companies met Aug. 26 and 27 as part of the first event in Mexico focused on strengthening business relationships between the videogame industry and retailers in Mexico and Latin America. EGS Business took place at Expo Bancomer Santa Fe, and drew more than 250 people including consumers, distributors, retail representatives from Mexico and Brazil, and the media.
The alliances and strategies created during EGS Business represent a big advance for the Mexican market. EGS Business established itself as the ideal place for a business encounter with a common aim: to increase and strength businesses in Mexico and Latin America.
Activision Blizzard®, Electronic Arts®, Disney Interactive Studios®, Games for Windows®, Konami®, THQ®, Xbox®, SEGA®, LucasArts® and Warner Interactive® were among the companies that offered information and market strategies in presentations to the Latin-American market.
"It is very important for Xbox to keep supporting the Mexican videogame industry, and this is why, since some years ago, we assign some resources to encourage events such as the EGS that are essential for the industry consolidation and growth in our country," said Erick Baca, marketing executive for Xbox. "Our commitment to our consumers is unbreakable, and our priority is always trying to satisfy their needs and concerns in the most direct, fast and efficient ways, bringing the most powerful and avant-garde entertainment system to their homes and offering unique quality."
Joaquín Colino, digital media manager for The Walt Disney Company Mexico, said "EGS Business offered perfect time and space for talking, closing proposals and preparing for a successful Christmas season."
Arturo Adorno, sales manager for THQ Latin America said, "EGS Business is the most effective and productive way for the videogames industry, and THQ in particular, to finalize their seasonal plans and consolidate their relationships with retailers and other members of the industry.
"Mexico's videogame industry needed an event like this, where exposure could show the big opportunities the industry has, and we could recognize our strengths and weaknesses," he continued. "These events are useful for helping the industry grow, joining us together, and helping us share our best practices and detect our opportunity areas, establishing the videogame industry in Mexico as the most dynamic and fastest-growing industry in the entertainment sector."
Jeremiah Wehler, regional sales manager for SEGA said, "[EGS Business was] a positive experience. Very good information, great people and everything is done for the consumers."
Ulises Molina of Warner Interactive for Mexico and Central America said, "I loved it, the idea is incredible. There is no question that the industry is close. We reached our aim."
Mario Valle, sales and marketing manager for Electronic Arts, Mexico said "We are betting on the industry for EGS Business to become a leading event for the continuous development and growth of the videogames market in Mexico. At EA we are very happy and satisfied to have participated in a productive, concrete and simple initiative."
EGS Business has established itself as the first successful business event for the Latin American videogame industry. The continued growth of the Mexican market is demonstrated with this event that gathers the most important brands of video games and distributors together. EGS Business jump-started marketing and commercial activities so that Electronic Game Show 2009, to be held Oct. 23-25, will be filled once again with great content and exhibitions, with the aim of being a valuable and unique event.
Videogames represent a cultural evolution much bigger and more powerful than their own technological evolution," said Jose Lizarraga, organizer of EGS Business. "The advance and growth of the videogames market has gone from being a niche hobby to a way of communication that reconfigures the social and cultural rules of our times. EGS Business comes as a result of that growth."
