Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2008

BAFTA sponsoring it.

Friday 18th July 2008/… The Edinburgh Interactive Festival organisers have today announced an exciting new partnership with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in the form of a key sponsor for the event. BAFTA will sponsor the opening night Networking Drinks Reception, where key games industry luminaries will gather to kick-start this year’s highly-anticipated Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2008.

BAFTA, which has a strong, ongoing commitment to the video games industry, will support this most important and longest running festival of the creative culture of games and interactive entertainment by greeting delegates and selected members of the press as they gather for the Networking Reception – to be held this year Monday 11th August. BAFTA’s charitable remit is to support, develop and promote all the art forms of the moving image and that includes focussing attention on the highest achievements in video games production in the UK each year in order to motivate and inspire those who make games and to educate and develop the tastes of those who play them.

Anne-Marie Flynn, Head of Awards at BAFTA, said: “BAFTA is delighted to be supporting this year’s Edinburgh Interactive Festival and sponsoring the prestigious Networking Drinks Reception opener. The Festival, over its six-year life, has established itself as a pivotal event in the Games industry calendar and to this end BAFTA is honoured to play a part in it and will hopefully continue to do so in future.”

About Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2008

Now celebrating its sixth year, the Edinburgh Interactive Festival is powered up to showcase the continued popularity, growth and influence of video games. And this year, the Interactive Festival is more synchronised with the world famous Edinburgh Festival than ever, appealing to the press, public and professionals from film, television and interactive media backgrounds alike, offering a bigger event for delegates, more consumer focusing – an overall spectacle for all.

New to Interactive Festival 2008 will be Features, Exhibition and Recruitment areas specifically tailored to cater for the public - allowing them access to the latest games and job opportunities in games.

As ever, the three-day Interactive Festival wouldn’t be complete without the cornerstones of conferences, keynotes, panel sessions, debates, games screenings and even more people than ever jostling to get through the doors.
