EA cuts 60 staff at Los Angeles studio
In the same week that Electronic Arts announced better than expected results for its financial third quarter, the giant publisher has also slashed 60 jobs at its studio in Los Angeles, it has emerged.
The cuts came from development staff on a number of project teams at the EALA campus, with the company claiming that no specific game team was targeted by the move, which left non-development staff unaffected.
According to EALA studio manager Neil Young, the cuts are designed to "rebalance the teams across the entire studio" and are the first step in a process which will "transform" the studio to prepare it for the challenges of future development.
The layoffs reduce the size of the EALA location, which has grown exceptionally rapidly since its inception last year, from 380 staff to 320, and affected staffers are expected to receive severance packages and assistance with outplacement.
