EA confirms Burnout 3 for September

Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that it is set to publish Burnout 3, the third instalment in the critically acclaimed racing game series from Guildford-based developer Criterion, as we reported last month.

The game, which is due to launch in September of this year, will have online play for the first time - but only on the PlayStation 2, with EA's continuing feud with Microsoft over the term of the Live service preventing it from going online on the Xbox.

The company has also released the first screens from the forthcoming racer, which promises to build on the arcade racing mechanics and spectacular crashes of the previous games. You can find the screenshots at our sister site, Eurogamer.net.
