Nintendo will be pleased to see that its two hardware platforms once again sat atop the latest sales charts in its home territory of Japan, with the news that the Sony PlayStation Portable has dropped down to third place.
The PSP had become comfortable in second place, last week selling just 1000 units fewer than the DS in first, but as sales of all consoles fell across the week ending January 20, the PSP fell sharper than the rest.
That meant that according to the Media Create data the Wii went back up to second, while the PlayStation 3 was a distant fourth, followed by the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox 360.
The full sales numbers are as follows:
1. Nintendo DS: 88,575
2. Nintendo Wii: 81,638
3. PlayStation Portable: 79,923
4. PlayStation 3: 38,117
5. PlayStation 2: 13,539
6. Xbox 360: 4552
