DS Effects launches mobile phone camera games

Six titles designed for use with camera enabled handsets

Italian mobile game publisher and developer DS Effects has announced the launch of a series of games designed specifically to be integrated with still photos captured on mobile phone handsets.

The six new titles require users to capture still images using the camera on their Java-enabled phones, and whatever picture has been taken will then be used as the focal point for each of the games.

Camera Puzzle takes the still image and jumbles it up to create a unique slide-puzzle, challenging the players to accurately re-assemble the pieces and reveal the whole image intact. Camera Memory is an adaptation of the traditional matching pairs game, which will cover a series of matching images and test the players memory as they try to remember the position of matching pairs of images.

Camera Bricks and Camera Snake take two classic arcade style games, Breakout and Snake, adding a unique twist with personalised snapshots to either break away with the constantly bouncing ball, or feed into the ever-enlarging hungry serpent.

Finally, Camera Blocks uses still images captured on the phone to recreate the familiar shapes of classic puzzle game Tetris, and Camera Simon recreates the 1970's rhythm memory game, where players need to remember and repeat the exact sequence to steadily reveal the image.

The games are all simple and definitely familiar in concept, the twist coming from the unique integration with in-built phone cameras - which DS Effects hope will entice gamers to give them a try.

DS Effects was founded six years ago in Italy, focusing on the development and publishing of innovative Java-based mobile games and applications. Through a series of strategic partnerships and distribution agreements, DS Effect games and content are currently available in more than 40 countries around the world.
