Dragonfly Licenses Unreal Engine 3
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEOUL, KOREA (February 15, 2008) - Dragonfly announced today that it has licensed Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games, Inc. for an unannounced project. Dragonfly has developed distinguished games in Korea including the online first-person shooters "Karma Online" and "Special Force."
"Unreal Engine 3 is the right game engine for us," said Park Cheol Seung, vice president of Dragonfly. "While we have developed much of our own technology over the years, Unreal Engine 3 clearly provides the cutting edge framework we need to ensure the highest development standards in our project."
"Dragonfly is a proven team with an outstanding track record," said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic. "We are honored to support one of Korea's top game developers with the core technologies, development infrastructure and tools they need to make amazing games."
About Dragonfly
Established in 1995, Dragonfly is a premier developer of game software in Korea. Debuting "The Tour of Duty" in 1996, Dragonfly has developed numerous titles including the RPGs "Karma," "Anpanman I," "Anpanman II," "Walpurgis Night," and even the world's first online FPS game "Karma Online." Building on the success of "Karma Online," Dragonfly developed "Special Force" in 2004 with more advanced technology and expertise, and it came to dominate Korea's online game market in 2005. By January 2006, "Special Force" had over 8 million members with 115,000 concurrent users, cementing the game as a household name among Korean games. Although "Karma Online" and "Special Force" were released at a time when MMORPG was in vogue, Dragonfly was able to establish FPS as an accepted genre despite unfavorable market conditions, and it has evolved into one of the strongest genres in the online games market. Dragonfly continues build on "Special Force" so that the whole world may enjoy it, and it is making efforts to expand distribution overseas.
