Dots developer nets $10 million

Series A round led by Tencent and Greycroft Partners

The developer of the minimalist mobile hit Dots has raised $10 million in a series A funding round.

Tencent and Greycroft Partners were joint leaders, with contributions from a range of VC firms and angel investors. Such a high level of interest is hardly surprising, given the 45 million registered users for Playdots Inc's only two products: Dots and TwoDots.

"It's been immensely gratifying to watch millions of people across the globe engage with our games," said co-founder and CEO Paul Murphy in a statement. "This investment from an incredible set of partners will help Dots become one of the leading mobile-first game studios."

While Playdots has promised to reveal its plans in detail next year, this $10 million funding round will specifically be used to develop the Dots franchise and expand its audience.
