SuperData: Digital spend on console reaches $1.24bn for September
Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion beats out Fortnite to top digital console rankings
Worldwide digital spending on console reached $1.24 billion for September, up from $912 million the same month last year, according to the latest figures from SuperData.
The increase continues a "string of high-growth months going into the holiday season", driven by the popularity of Fortnite and a slew of AAA launches, such as FIFA 19 which was the best digital launch in franchise history.
SuperData estimates that FIFA 19 digital console units grew 18 per cent compared to FIFA 18, hitting another record despite lagging behind other AAA franchise in terms of download rates.
Marvel's Spider-Man was Sony' biggest digital launch to date, selling 2.17 million units on PlayStation 4 -- excluding bundled sales -- just edging out the God of War launch earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion beat out Fortnite to take the number one digital console rankings spot, with over 60 per cent of all active users purchasing the expansion.
Finally, although NBA 2K19 enjoyed a new peak of digital console sales, overall growth fell short of the rate seen over the past couple of years.
