Digital Illusions announces full-year profits, confirms Battlefield dates

Swedish developer Digital Illusions CE has announced its financial results for the full year ended December 31st, with profits sliding by almost a third despite rising revenues from the hugely successful Battlefield franchise.

Net revenues for the year came to SEK 209.3m (23.1m Euro), a rise of eight per cent compared with figures for the previous year, but profits after financial items fell by some 32 per cent to SEK 29.4m (3.2m Euro).

DICE attributed the decline in the profits figure to costs related to moving its offices in Gothenburg, as well as to lower royalty revenues - with royalty payments making up some 41 per cent of the firm's income in 2004.

The company's financial statement for the year also confirms the planned release dates of the next titles in the Battlefield series, with PC sequel Battlefield 2 currently on track to launch in June 2005.

The series' console debut, Battlefield: Modern Combat, is down for launch in "2005" - with the firm apparently determined to get the game out the door by the end of the year on PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 2 / Xbox 360 / Xbox Next / whatever we're calling it today.

Both titles will, of course, be published by Electronic Arts - which made a tender offer for all of the outstanding shares in DICE back in November, and at the end of January closed the offer after taking a controlling 59.8 per cent stake in the company.
