Develop Conference and Expo

A list of sessions for the Develop Mobile conference running alongside the main event on July 29th.

18 June 2008: Tandem Events has unveiled a content-rich programme for the third annual Develop Mobile conference, which takes place on 29 July alongside the Develop Conference and Expo in Brighton, Europe’s leading conference for the development community.

Develop Mobile, created in 2006 specifically for developers and publishers of mobile games, will feature 13 speakers, nine sessions and two brand new tracks - Business and Development – addressing everything from the latest 3D technologies, to case studies of successful games, proven techniques for launching a new IP, and cross-platform casual games design.

Speakers confirmed to date include Alex Cacia and Tim Closs (Ideaworks3D), Stuart Dredge (Pocket Gamer), Paul Marshall (Playerx), Patrick Mork (Glu), Tim Harrison, Alastair Hill (Mmetrics), Kristian Segerstrale and Jeff Valadares.

Scheduled sessions include (for updates please visit www.developconference.com):

- Score! The making of UEFA EURO 2008 and EA SPORTS FIFA 08 on mobile

Speakers: Adrian Blunt is the Producer of the EA Sports FIFA and UEFA franchises on mobile, based in EA Mobile’s UK studio. Chris Gibbs is the Executive Producer of the EA Mobile UK studio.

- Constrained Creativity: Using the limitations to your advantage

Jeferson Valadares is the Creative director at EA Mobile UK’s studio

- Transforming the market: Lessons learned from the marketing of Transformers and other big brand mobile games (Patrick Mork)

- Are we there yet?: The size, scope and future growth of the mobile games market, and where and why previous predictions have gone wrong (Alastair Hill)

- Why mobile games have failed? (Paul Marshall, Alex Cacia, Kristian Segerstrale)

Copy right: If you're short of ideas for your next mobile game, nick these (Stuart Dredge)

- Global opportunities for native mobile games (Tim Closs)

Andy Lane, managing director of Tandem Events: “Mobile games developers and publishers have built healthy businesses in the face of widespread public scepticism over the last few years with many mainstream games publishers leaping on the bandwagon and creating stand alone mobile divisions. Now, thanks to the iPhone , which celebrates its first birthday this month, and high-end rivals like Nokia's N95, browsing and, therefore, downloading and playing games, has become child’s play and consumers are finally waking up to what they're packing in their pockets. All this points to 2008 being a banner year for the mobile games industry and Develop Mobile is on hand to guide developers through it and beyond.”

A Develop Mobile pass costs £175 before 1 July and £215 after.
