About Oban Star-Racers:
Oban Star-Racers chronicles the epic tale of the Great Race of Oban, an intergalactic racing competition which takes place every 10,000 years to determine the winner of a mysterious ultimate prize. The series central character, Molly, is a feisty teenage pilot determined to reunite with her father, race manager Don Wei, who abandoned her 10 years ago in tragic circumstences.
Created and developped by Savin Yeatman-Eiffel and his team from studio Sav! The World Productions, produced for the most part in Tokyo by Franco-Japanese teams, and put to music by renowned composers Yoko Kanno and Iwasaki Taku, Oban Star-Racers is a beautiful and touching adventure story, and a unique case of artistic collaboration between France and Japan.
The serialised story was designed for kids aged 7-12, but the quality of its animation and its rich universe and characters has also proven very popular with older teens and with anime fans of all ages.
The series was awarded earlier this month the Animeland Award for Best Non-Japanese Animation of 2006, awarded by the readers of France's leading animation magazine, Animeland, as well as the EuroJap Award 2007 at Polymanga, Switzerland's largest anime convention.
Sav! The Worlds directors, writer and designers have been resident in Japan for the whole production process combining Japanese 2D animation with European 3D animation. The French artists have been working hand in hand with the production team at anime studio and partner Hal Film Maker for over two years - the first time a collaboration with Japan takes place at such a high level.
The series currently airs on all Jetix blocks and channels accross the world, including Toondisney in the US.
It also aired successfully on France 3 and on GMTV, among others, and has just recently started broadcast on Super-RTL in Germany last monday. Rai in Italy, Antenna 3 in Spain and Chinese market leader CCTV will follow soon.
