Crystal SDK
Chillingo's development platform extended to cover social games.
London, UK., – October 12, 2010 – Leading downloadable game publisher, Chillingo, today announced that it has extended its Third Party Developer Program to developers around the world to support freemium-based social games across mobile platforms. Crystal SDK, the company’s proprietary social platform provides extended monetization tools to allow developers to deliver free-to-play games and generate revenues via micro transactions through virtual goods, gifting and promotions - business models made popular by social flash-based games in the web world.
Chillingo has earned a great reputation as the “Developer’s Publisher” with indie developers around the world. Its success on the Apple iOS platform includes chart-topping paid games such as Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, Guerilla Bob, iDracula and many more.
“We now offer our developers two alternative business models to engage gamers – the traditional one-off paid model, and a freemium model,” said Joe Wee, Co-Founder and Director of Chillingo. He adds, “We have spent the past six months extending our technology framework. It now provides our developers and ultimately our customers more choice in how they choose to engage with social games on mobile platforms.“
Chillingo has been working with several key developers in recent months on this technology. The company will soon launch a location-aware, massively multiplayer online role-playing (MMORPG) empire building, freemium game called ‘My Kingdom’ in the coming months.
Crystal SDK currently supports both Apple’s iOS and Flash platforms. Other mobile platforms including Android are scheduled for release in Q4 2010.
