Cryptose
Secret messages require decoding in newly released iPhone/Android puzzler.
April 21, 2010
Indie game studio Insurgent Games has released its latest addictive puzzler Cryptose on the Android Market and has submitted it to the iPhone App Store. Cryptose is a cryptogram word game where you use logic and deductive reasoning to decode secret messages. Players choose between three occupations to uncover answers on a detective's notepad, the blood-stained parchment of a spy, or an old-school hacker's TRS-80 computer screen.
The game is peppered with interesting facts and quotes about encryption, cypherpunk and the history of code-breaking. “I wanted to make a game that helps people learn about encryption. Cryptography is important to freedom. And it's also fun,” said Micah Lee, founder of Insurgent Games.
Cryptose features thousands of phrases to decrypt and offers the player a helpful hint button to curb frustration. Cryptose Lite, a free version of Cryptose with limited features, is also available in the Android Market and has been submitted to the App Store.
