Countdown comes to mobiles

As part of Granada agreement with Dynamo Games

Dynamo Games has announced the forthcoming launch of a mobile phone game based on hit UK TV show Countdown as part of its licensing deal with Granada Ventures.

Countdown was first broadcast in 1982 and was the first programme ever shown on Channel 4. In 2003 Radio Times readers voted it the best C4 show ever, and in 2004 a reception was held in its honour at the House of Commons. More than 27,000 episodes of Countdown have now been broadcast.

Like the TV programme, the Countdown game will feature a range of maths and word puzzles, and players must race to solve them against the clock.

"Countdown is far more than a game show. It's an institution, which is loved by millions of people of all ages and from all walks of life," said Dynamo MD Brian McNicoll.

"Puzzle and quiz games are one of the most popular types of game on mobile handsets. With Countdown's simple, accessible gameplay, combination of word and number challenges and the show's fantastic reputation and credibility, we're looking forward to bringing it to mobile users throughout the UK and Ireland."

Granada Ventures MD Gerry Donohoe added: "Dynamo have succeeded in capturing the simplicity and appeal of the show in the new mobile game bringing the Countdown experience to a whole new generation."

The Countdown mobile game will be available later this month via the Dynamo Games website, priced at GBP 5. The site will also offer a selection of Countdown wallpapers and ringtones.
