Control has sold more than 2m units

Sci-fi thriller is Remedy's fastest-growing new IP since Max Payne

Remedy Entertainment's acclaimed action game Control has shifted more than two million units since launching last year.

The figure was revealed during the company's first ever Capital Markets Day presentation, which provides an update on Remedy for investors and analysts.

It makes Control the developer's fastest growing new IP since Max Payne.

This has in part been enabled by the fact that Control is the studio's first "truly multi-platform" game in years, due to Microsoft exclusivity limiting Alan Wake and Quantum Break to Xbox and PC.

The Finnish studio said the sci-fi title continues to sell strongly, noting that November 2020 was a record month for the game thanks to promotions.

Remedy noted that there has been a significant shift to digital in 2020. Where physical copies accounted for 40% of all game sales in 2019, it has shrunk to 10% this year.

The company also teased Vanguard, its upcoming live-service multiplayer game that will draw on "selected Remedy world-building and narrative strengths."

While the studio said it's keeping quiet on the game for now, it did confirm the title would be free-to-play and entirely funded by Remedy, although it has not decided what the publishing model will be.

We recently talked to Control's director Mikael Kasurinen about the game's development on our Five Games Of podcast.
