Consumer Association slams Nintendo over UK Cube price premium

The Consumers' Association of Great Britain has criticised Nintendo over what it describes as an unfair premium in the new pricing of the GameCube, which is £10 more expensive in the UK than in Europe.

Last week's price cuts dropped the suggested retail price for the Cube to â'¬99 in Europe, which has translated to £79 in the UK - despite the fact that a direct currency conversion would set the sterling price at £69.76.

"There is normally an excuse," commented a spokesperson for the consumers' association, "but it seems unfair that the UK always ends up paying more. It may be just £10 in the case of the GameCube but it's £10 too much."

For its part, Nintendo claims that the final price is determined by the retailers, with their decision being based on the exchange rate and other local factors - effectively shunting the blame for this premium onto UK games retail.

Update #1: Removed inaccurate information regarding GAME GameCube pricing in the UK.
