COMPUTEC's games magazine for women - available at newsagents all over Germany since April 4
play vanilla hits the newsstands
It's here - the world's first women's games magazine. At 148 pages in pocket format, the first issue of play vanilla priced at 1.90 a copy took to Germany's kiosks and newsagents on April 4: play vanilla - exciting news stories, inspiring reports and interviews all about games for PC, console, iPod and mobile phone platforms, plus news on hot new gaming gear and the latest trends.
The first issue of play vanilla came with a bumper crop of content - interviews with famous gamers such as Eva Briegel, lead singer of German rock band Juli, and flyweight boxing star Regina Halmich; the new PlayStation 3 midnight sales start in Berlin; Paris Hilton's Golden PSP award; articles to whet the appetite for new releases such as Lord of the Rings online and Spiderman 3; getting fit with the PS2 and Wii; in-depth reviews on gaming hits such as Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Guitar Hero 2; plus a convenient buyer's guide with trends and gaming systems.
"With the high expectations we are facing after the initial announcement of play vanilla, we were even more ambitious in providing the best possible combination of topics from the fascinating world of gaming," says play vanilla editor-in-chief Petra Fröhlich. "The new text content and design layout will bring a fresh breeze into the market for women's magazines, a new format to fire up the gaming instinct - and everything that goes with it."
Johannes Sevket Gözalan, Computec Media AG CEO, adds: "play vanilla is our innovative new print and online publication, a brand-new concept to make waves on the market. At the same time, we will be addressing one of the most important target groups in the burgeoning electronic entertainment sector. Women of today are fully au fait with hi-tech, and exercise an influence on both the design of new consumer electronics products and content, such as games; play vanilla finally acknowledges this development. We've supported the play vanilla launch with a kick-off campaign worth three million euros, and we're convinced that our 'special-interest magazine for her' will take a firm position among the women's magazines."
At three million euros in media outreach, the play vanilla launch campaign ranged from printed ads in magazines such as Prinz, Petra, Joy, Cosmopolitan, Shape and TV direkt to TV commercials on German TV channels Vox, MTV, Super RTL to advertising spots in UCI movie theatres to advertising banners on high-outreach websites.
play vanilla addresses a large and continuously growing target group. Currently, there are more than seven million women gamers on PCs and games consoles in Germany. Of these, around 4.72 million - 66 percent - are aged between fourteen and thirty-nine (TdW 2006).
