Codemasters closes Hamburg office

Facility to wind down by June as deal with Koch Media renders it surplus to requirements

Codemasters has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it is closing its office in Hamburg, with operations set to end by next month.

The move comes as the publisher - recently revitalised with an injection of investment from Reliance ADA - moves ahead in its partnership with Koch Media, a deal which sees the German company handle Codemasters' distribution in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

"We are cementing our relationship with Koch Media as our new distribution partner for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as part of our market access strategy for that region," explained Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens to GamesIndustry.biz.

"Through that handover the need to have an additional office for territory operations is changing and the process of winding down the Hamburg office will be complete in June. We thank everyone who played a valuable role in working with us there both recently and in the past.

"In working with Koch they offer practical efficiencies, including local marketing execution in G/A/S. However, we continue to run an international business with international marketing leadership coming from personnel based outside the UK.

"The G/A/S region marketing will continue to be managed by Mike Hendrixen, our marketing director for Europe Central/North, who will work alongside Koch to deliver an immediate and specific focus for F1 2010 in G/A/S," he added.

Codemasters is currently gearing up for the launch later this year of high profile racer F1 2010.
