Codemasters' Ashes Cricket 2009 tops UK sales chart
Knocks Wii Sports Resort from the top spot to become first UK published game to top all-formats chart since 2007
Codemasters' Ashes Cricket 2009 has knocked aside Wii Sports Resort to become this week's all-formats number one selling game.
The most recent Chart Track figures reveal the new release outsold the Nintendo title, which had been number one for the two weeks prior. Its feat makes Codemasters the first UK publisher to reach the top of the all-formats chart since Eidos in week six of 2007, with Battlestations Midway. Ashes Cricket 2009 however, outsells that title by almost three-to-one thanks to its strong marketing campaign. Its début week sales saw it get close in numbers to EA's recent chart-topping Fight Night Round 4.
While Wii Sports Resort dropped both a place and 49 per cent in sales on last week, it still sold the number three game by a considerable margin. Its closest competitors were Wii Fit and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which both slipped one place to numbers three and four respectively. Meanwhile, the number five position is taken by another EA game, Fight Night Round 4, which retains its last week position.
Overall though, EA had one less game in the top ten this week - four, down from five. Of its other two titles, Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince dropped two places to number six, and The Sims 3 three places to number 10.
Call of Juarex: Bound in Blood gained three places from last week to number seven, and Disney film tie-in G-Force - now released in the cinema - climbed 18 places to break into the top ten at number nine.
