CNET UK reveals staff lay-offs

Challenging market conditions leads to "small number" of redundancies

CNET Networks UK has revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that it has recently undertaken a review of the company structure, and due to a challenging market has laid off a number of staff.

"We have recently reviewed the structure of our company," a spokesperson said. "Due to current market conditions and the changing needs of the business we reviewed our team structure to ensure we continue to operate a successful business.

"As a result we have made some staff cut backs, affecting a small number of CNET Networks' UK employees."

GamesIndustry.biz understands that the redundancies number less than ten employees, and are spread across the publisher's online brands, including GameSpot UK - whose news editor Emma Boyes has left the company.

It is believed that the move was prompted by a number of missed sales targets across the UK company. CNET Networks was recently acquired by CBS, and owns the GameSpot, CNET, Silicon and ZDNET brands, among others.
