British developer Climax has announced the appointment of WildTangent and Midway veteran David Schwartz as president of its recently founded Los Angeles studio, which was created by the company last May.

The Los Angeles studio's stated raison d'etre is to provide Climax with a way of building closer relationships with the many entertainment companies which are based in the Southern California region.

Industry veteran Schwartz, who is the first major personnel hiring to be announced by the new studio, will head up Climax' efforts in the USA. He joins the company from online game publisher WildTangent, where he was vice president of development.

Prior to WildTangent, Schwartz worked at Midway Games, where his credits include a number of the company's biggest titles - most notably several of the Mortal Kombat series of games, and the early NFL Blitz titles.

No projects have been announced as yet by Climax Los Angeles. Here in the UK, the firm's studios are working on a number of titles, including massively multiplayer game Warhammer Online and Xbox RPG Sudeki, and the company is also believed to be working on early prototypes for next-generation titles already.
