Clickgamer extends coding competition

New categories, new prizes, new deadline

Due to what's described as overwhelming interest in the previously announced Cutting EDGE Coding competition for mobile games design, organiser Clickgamer has announced an extension to the entry deadline.

The competition is designed to promote the benefits of creating mobile games using the advanced EDGE SDK, and a range of prizes - including a two-year commercial license for EDGE - are on offer.

Originally, the closing date for entries was June 7th 2006, but the company has now extended this until August 31st to allow further development time, as well as introducing several new elements to the competition.

Through partnership with Pocketmotion, creators of the TiltCONTROL hardware device that attaches to a pocket PC or smartphone and detects the precise angle at which a phone is being held, Clickgamer has introduced a new category and a range of new prizes for the winners.

The competition is now split into two categories: the current Best Cross Platform Game and a new category, the Best TiltCONTROL Enabled Game. Prizes for the Best Cross Platform Game now consists of an iPod Video (in place of the Gizmondo unit previously on offer), a two year commercial EDGE license and USD 5000 worth of free advertising at clickgamer.com.

Prizes for the winner in the new TiltCONTROL category consists of a Sony PSP handheld and one-year commercial EDGE license.

The winning submission will be selected in September 2006 by a team of independent judges, who will be looking for the very best games in terms of originality, multi-platform awareness and playability. The Cutting EDGE Coding Competition 2006 can be entered via the competition website.

More information on the Competition, Clickgamer and the EDGE SDK can be found in our Clickgamer feature.
