Christmas number one for Bethesda
Skyrim secures top spot in UK software charts, promotions help boost THQ and EA titles
Strong review scores, a big marketing campaign and a recent price cut that saw prices for the game dropping to below £15 have all helped to secure Bethesda the number one spot on the UK software chart for Christmas.
This is a break in traditions for the charts, which has seen EA or Activision secure the top position since 2003.
Skyrim was secure in the top spot, but the two and three positions were a closer race with family title Just Dance 3 just edging out Modern Warfare 3 to secure Ubisoft i's best Christmas chart position since 2007.
Price cuts have helped boost sales of Saints Row: The Third, and similar offers and new DLC have also helped Battlefield 3 retain its position at number 6.
The only new entry in the top 20 was the Moshi Monsters spin off Moshling Zoo, published on Nintendo DS by Activision.
