Cheeky launches new service for developers
Converts mobile games to PC, Mac, Linux and XBLA
UK-based company Cheeky has launched a new service which allows the conversion of mobile phone games for release on other platforms.
Cheeky Live! converts code to C# using Microsoft's XNA platform for PC and XBLA, and J2SE for Mac and Linux. The J2SE versions can also be used as web applets so developers can offer demos on their websites.
The games' graphics are redrawn for larger screens as part of the conversion process, and take advantage of the extra available memory. In addition, music is converted and sound effects are added.
"I've spent a long time developing this technology so we can easily release games across as many platforms as possible," said Cheeky's Mark Ripley.
"It makes sense to make best use of this tech to help other struggling mobile games developers reach the blossoming casual gaming audience too."
