Capcom Entertainment enters the mobile market

Dedicated mobile division established in the US

Japanese publishers and developers Capcom Entertainment is making a determined move into the wireless arena, with the creation of a dedicated mobile and interactive division based in Los Angeles, USA.

Since its inception in 1983, the publisher has created a number of leading game franchises, publishing on multiple consoles worldwide. The company intends to bring popular brands such as Ghosts and Goblins, Resident Evil and Mega Man to mobile users, promising an initial output of more than 10 dedicated mobile titles in the coming year.

The company is currently negotiating content deals with major handset manufacturers, mobile operators and network equipment manufacturers worldwide, having established a dedicated team led by Midori Yuasa, former executive director of mobile business at Sony Pictures Digital.

Yuasa was instrumental in planning and launching Sony's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) business in San Diego, and worked on the unification of Sony's hardware and content groups for its PDA business.

Also joining the new division will be studio and deployment director, Stuart Platt. Platt most recently served as director of product development for THQ Wireless, and brings more than five years wireless gaming and mobile content experience to the company.

Commenting on the creation of Capcom's wireless content division, senior vice president and general manager Midori Yuasa stated: "We are excited about this new endeavour and are looking forward to bringing our expertise to the mobile landscape."

"Our main objective is to establish Capcom's new division and provide unique game play integration between wireless, online and console sectors. Our new facility in Los Angeles will house all of our mobile and interactive media offerings and we are looking to make our mark in the mobile entertainment industry," she added.
