Capcom bullish at TGS with new IP and Blue Castle acquisition
"Japanese industry is not dead as long as Capcom is still around" - Inafune
Capcom has presented its Tokyo Game Show keynote today in flamboyant style, announcing three new games in a presser themed around Capcom's importance to the Japanese industry – according to Capcom boss Keiji Inafune.
Inafune had previously declared the Japanese industry 'finished' at a Dead Rising 2 event during last year's TGS, but stated today that "the Japanese industry is not dead as long as Capcom is still around", VG247 reports.
Capcom opened by announcing that they will be producing Dead Rising 2: Case West - a 360-exclusive epilogue to Dead Rising 2, along the lines of the successful paid-for prologue, Case Zero, which has now sold over 500,000 copies worldwide.
Inafune also revealed that Capcom has now bought Canadian Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle, which will be renamed Capcom Games Studio Vancouver as a result.
More new games announcements followed in the form of Asura's Wrath, an Unreal 3-powered action game from Cyber Connect 2, and DMC – a new twist on the Devil May Cry franchise which will be developed by Ninja Theory, creator of Enslaved and Heavenly Sword.
