Canessa takes Battle.net role at Blizzard

Former Microsoft and PopCap exec to oversee next build of gaming service

Blizzard has confirmed that Greg Canessa has joined the company and will work on the next iteration of gaming service Battle.net

Canessa quit casual games business PopCap to move to the World of Warcraft developer, and had previously been at Microsoft responsible for implementing its online gaming services, including Xbox Live.

"We can confirm that Greg Canessa has taken a position at Blizzard Entertainment as project director for Battle.net," said the company in a statement to fan site wowinsider.

"He will report to our vice president of online technologies and work closely with the executive team to help fine-tune the next version of Battle.net, currently in development."
