Candy Crush maker King sees Q1 profit grow 29%

Revenue down 6% to $570 million

King, the company best known for Candy Crush Saga, has reported a profit growth of 29 per cent in Q1 2015. That's a $37 million increase year-on-year for a total of $164 million.

Revenue was $570 million, down 6 per cent on the same period last year.

"Our first quarter 2015 results demonstrate the continued strength of our franchises, with Candy Crush Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga and Farm Heroes Saga remaining top 10 grossing games in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the US," said CEO Riccardo Zacconi.

"We are pleased by the sustained popularity of our games which is also reflected in our second consecutive quarter of company-high network reach metrics and we look forward to leveraging the extraordinary power of our massive player base in launching new innovative games in 2015 and beyond."

The company also shared that it had seen decrease in paying players in Q1 2015. Monthly Unique Payers (MUPs) stood at 8.523 million, down 3.336 million or 28 per cent year-on-year.

During Q1 2015 King also repurchased an aggregate of 7.396 million shares through open market purchases.

Today Microsoft announced that Candy Crush Saga would be automatically installed for customers that downloaded its new Windows 10 OS.

"Over time, other popular and awesome King game titles will be available for Windows 10," said Microsoft's senior marketing communications manager Brandon LeBlanc.
