Campo Santo, Buried Signal and Stoic open Nordic Game Conference line-up
Swedish conference has an indie-focused year, with second Nordic Discovery Contest and a new equity funding event
The Nordic Game Conference has opened its 2018 speaker line-up with luminaries from the world of indie development, including Stoic, Campo Santo and Buried Signal.
Technical director John Watson will represent Stoic at this year's conference, ahead of the launch of the third game in its celebrated series, The Banner Saga. Campo Santo's Chris Remo, one of the studio's co-founders, will also speak at the event, in his capacity as both a designer and a composer on games like Firewatch and the forthcoming In the Valley of the Gods.
Less established but no less celebrated is Buried Signals Jason Roberts, whose passion project and debut game Gorogoa received huge acclaim when it launched in December 2017.
The Nordic Game Conference's commitment to representing the indie community will also be evident in the second year of its Nordic Game Discovery Contest. Games have been selected through live pitching events across the world throughout the last year, and the best of them will compete in the Finals at NGC 2018 in Malmo, Sweden.
New to the NGC format in 2018 is the Games Capital Summit, hosted by veteran investor and former IGDA-head Jason Della Rocca. The event will bring together a panel of established VC investors with a vetted group of developers; only projects that are suitable for equity investment will be selected for the event, and submissions are open until midnight on Friday April 20.
We spoke to Della Rocca about the issues that developers face in securing funding, and the goals of the Games Capital Summit, earlier this week. You can read our conversation here.
The Nordic Game Conference takes place from May 23 to 25 - with the Games Capital Summit on May 22 - in Malmo, Sweden. You can see the current speaker line-up here.
