Disney's Buena Vista Games has announced a new publishing partnership with Lumines creator Q Entertainment, bringing four new titles to market on handheld and PS2 platforms.
Q Entertainment, founded by noted ex-Sega games designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi in 2003, is responsible for two of the most critically acclaimed puzzle titles on the handheld platforms, with sales of Lumines on the PSP reaching in excess of 700,000 units worldwide to date.
Mizuguchi was responsible for games including Space Channel 5 and Rez during his time at Sega - both of which were highly innovative and appealing titles - and Meteos is also rated as one of the top puzzle games on the Nintendo DS.
Under the terms of the new agreement, BVG will publish four new games from the developer, including Lumines II and Every Extended Extra for the PSP, Lumines Plus for Sony's PS2 console and Meteos: Disney Edition, which is a new version of the game for Nintendo DS featuring a host of famous Disney cartoon characters and themes.
Graham Hopper, BVG's senior vice president and general manager, commented: "We are looking forward to enhancing our relationship with the talented team at Q Entertainment to bring gamers unique and innovative gaming experiences. With BVG's expertise in publishing a broad portfolio of video games for the entire family, these new titles are a perfect fit because they appeal to a wide variety of gamers."
BVG will publish the titles in all worldwide territories excluding Asia, and all four games are scheduled for release this autumn, which means an appearance in some form at the forthcoming E3 expo is highly likely.
