Bob & Harvey Weinstein form TWC Games
Film production duo to see games made from key licenses for mobile, social and console platforms
Film production duo Bob and Harvey Weinstein - founders of The Weinstein Company (TWC) - have announced the formation of a video game company that will utilise the parent firm's range of movie licences in titles to be created for mobile, social and console platforms.
TWC Games will work with external partners to oversee the development of titles based on properties from TWC and Dimension Films, which could include Scream, Hellraiser, Halloween, Scary Movie and Children of the Corn.
The company has also formed a strategic consultancy with Adam Boyes' Beefy Media, which will act as a point of contact for relationships with games companies.
"The video game marketplace is changing at such a rapid rate," said TWC co-chairman Bob Weinstein. "With all of the digital platforms, there are so many opportunities to broaden our audience with compelling, high quality, cost-efficient, video game entertainment."
And Boyes added: "The Weinstein Company is an incredible entertainment company, and I share their vision for creating very high quality content for the marketplace. We plan to combine our extensive video game developer relationships with the impressive catalogue of properties to create and produce content made by gamers for gamers."
Prior to forming TWC in 2005, the Weinstein brothers created Miramix Films in 1979, while recent high profile film releases for the duo include The King's Speech, Nine and Inglorious Basterds. No details on specifically which film properties would be first translated into games were disclosed.
